Typical jobs are replacing old single-glazed units, upgrading glazing in a renovation, and specifying windows for a new build or extension. Double glazing and Low-E glass
A single pane is a thermal hole in the wall. Double glazing puts two panes either side of an insulated cavity, often argon-filled, which slows heat transfer. That means less heat enters, the air conditioning runs less, and the cooling bill benefits.
Low-E (low-emissivity) glass adds a very thin coating that reflects radiant solar heat back outside while still letting light through. Dubai's problem is solar heat gain, not keeping warmth in, so solar-control Low-E is the glass upgrade that matters most here. We choose the glass for each elevation: a west-facing window taking afternoon sun needs stronger solar control than a shaded north face.
Frames: uPVC or thermal-break aluminium
- uPVC is naturally insulating and low-maintenance, with good thermal and acoustic performance. It is excellent value for most villas and apartments.
- Thermal-break aluminium has an insulating polyamide bar between the inner and outer sections, which stops heat bridging through the metal. It allows slimmer sightlines and larger spans for a contemporary look.
- Standard aluminium without a thermal break is best avoided in Dubai, because heat travels straight through the frame.
The same insulated cavity that cuts heat also reduces outside noise. For bedrooms and home offices near roads or flight paths, we can specify an acoustic build-up.
Dubai considerations
Heat, sun and dust set the brief. Heat and UV are the reason for solar-control glass, dust means good seals and drainage, and humidity means condensation has to be managed at the frame. Changing an external window is often not a free choice. Many communities and developers restrict exterior alterations, and approvals may be needed before anything is ordered. How the job runs
- Survey. We measure every opening and note orientation, access and what the existing frames are fixed to.
- Specification. We recommend glass and frame for each window and explain the choice.
- Quote and approvals. You receive a fixed quote, and we tell you early if a community approval is needed.
- Fabrication. Units are made to the measured openings.
- Installation. Old units are removed if included, new ones are fixed, sealed and weatherproofed.
- Handover. We check operation and locking, clean up and explain how to look after the frames.
What drives the cost
Windows are priced per unit and per project. The main factors are:
- the size and number of windows;
- the glass specification, whether double glazing, Low-E or acoustic;
- the frame, since thermal-break aluminium usually sits above uPVC;
- the opening style, such as fixed, casement, tilt-and-turn or sliding;
- access and height, and removal of existing units;
- any approval work the community requires.
