What makes an infinity pool different
An infinity pool looks simple and is anything but.
- The vanishing or weir edge is built fractionally lower than the water level
- Water spills continuously over that edge into a concealed catch basin
- Flows to a balance tank; filtered and pumped back through floor and wall inlets
- The water at the surface is a constantly recirculating system — which is why an infinity pool needs considerably more engineering than a standard pool
The vanishing edge — millimetre precision
- The spill edge must be perfectly level along its full length — a deviation of even a millimetre shows as an uneven, dribbling overflow
- Achieving and holding that tolerance through construction, curing and ground settlement is the single hardest part of the build
- This is a job for an experienced pool engineer, not a general contractor
- Darker edge finishes often specified — they read more dramatically as water tips over
Catch basin, balance tank and surge
- Catch basin sits below the weir; connected to the balance tank
- Tank must be sized correctly — large enough to hold the surge when several people enter at once plus the volume in motion over the edge
- Undersizing the balance tank is a common, visible failure — the edge stops flowing cleanly under load
- We calculate tank volume to the pool's size and expected use
Pumps and hydraulics — bigger by necessity
- An infinity pool continuously lifts water over the edge and pushes it back from a lower tank — needs higher-capacity circulation pumps than a standard pool; often with redundancy
- Wrong hydraulics: edge looks weak or water turns cloudy
- We design pump, pipework and inlet layout as an integrated system
Elevation and the view — siting matters
An infinity edge only delivers its drama where there is a drop and a view beyond:
- Slope, podium, rooftop or terrace overlooking skyline, sea or desert
- On a flat plot with a wall behind it, the effect is largely lost

Concrete is the right base
